A majority in the House passed legislation last week that, if enacted, would keep “foreign nationals from being counted for federal representation in Congress and in the Electoral College,” according to a report by The Texan:

“The Equal Representation Act (ERA) by Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-NC-11) will require the U.S. Census Department to include a question regarding citizenship in the census questionnaire or other documentation. In addition, it would require the census to determine the actual number of citizens in each state for redistricting purposes.

“Republicans say the need for the legislation has arisen from the millions of illegal aliens present in the country, who, if counted in the next census, could have a tremendous impact on future elections and political power. The ERA passed the House along party lines among those present 206 to 202, with every congressional Democrat from Texas opposed, and every Republican in support.”
