Hillary Clinton criticized white Christian men during an appearance on September 24 on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.
The comments sparked backlash just two weeks after the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
Clinton told hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski that she valued the United States’ progress but opposed efforts to return to what she described as an exclusionary past.
“You know, I love my country, and I love it, you know — warts and all,” Clinton said. “And I’m proud of the fact that we have always been a work in progress. You know, we haven’t gotten to the more perfect union.”
She continued by praising freedom of speech and the right to protest as central to the nation’s identity. Clinton then warned against attempts to turn back time.
“And the idea that you could turn the clock back and try to recreate a world that never was dominated by — you know, let’s say it — white men of a certain persuasion, a certain religion, a certain point of view, a certain ideology — it’s just doing such damage to what we should be aiming for,” Clinton said. “And we were on the path toward that — I mean, imperfectly, lots of bumps along the way.”
Clinton also criticized Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., accusing him of pushing outdated ideas. “When we aren’t vaccinating, we’re drinking raw milk, yeah, and people didn’t live,” she said.
Clinton, however, offered rare praise for President Donald Trump following his remarks on the war in Ukraine. “I welcomed what the President said yesterday,” Clinton said, referring to a Truth Social post in which Trump wrote that Ukraine “is in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form.”
Video clips of Clinton’s remarks quickly circulated online. Eric Daugherty, assistant news director at Florida’s Voice News, posted on X that Clinton warned against “the rise of Christianity” and said white Christian men were causing “such damage” to the country.
