Hillary Clinton appears to have ramped up her support for President Joe Biden as he struggles in polls against former President Donald Trump.

Clinton hosted the Women’s Leadership Forum last month in a fundraiser that netted $1 million for Biden’s campaign, NBC reported Sunday. This came weeks after the past presidential candidate and former Secretary of State wrote an op-ed in The Atlantic arguing in favor of Biden’s foreign policy approach to the escalated Israel-Hamas conflict. She also scolded an anti-Biden protester during her speech at Columbia University in October.

Several influential Democrats told NBC they are pleased to see Clinton help Biden ahead of his re-election campaign next year.

“At the end of the day, Biden needs all the help that he can get,” a Democratic strategist told the outlet. “What he needs is both the spirit and the actual reality of unity.”

“I don’t know of a couple that could be any more helpful to President Biden than the Clintons,” said Tom Daschle, a former Senate Democratic leader. “They have an enormous level of support and admiration within the Democratic Party.”

The support from Clinton comes as Biden trails Trump in a series of polls. The RealClearPolitics aggregate of polls shows Trump leading by more than 2% against the president. A CNN poll published Monday showed Biden trailing Trump by a significant margin in two states he won in 2020 — Georgia favored Trump by 5% and Michigan favored him by 10%. Biden had a 35% approval rating in Michigan and a 39% rating in Georgia.

“You’ve had politicians over the years say that every election is the most important election in our lifetimes,” Daschle told NBC. “This is literally the most important election in all of American history. The stakes have never been this high. Everyone feels the need to do their part to ensure that we get through the next 14 months.”
