General Motors (GM) is recalling 484,000 SUVs, because of a potential seat belt malfunction. Rivets holding the seat belt to the mounting bracket in the third row may have been formed improperly. The seat belts may not properly restrain a passenger in a crash.
Owners of Chevrolet Suburbans and Tahoes, Cadillac Escalades, and GMC Yukons from the 2021 and 2022 model years will be notified beginning September 26.
Though there have not been any injuries related to this malfunction, dealers will be inspecting these seat belts and repairing them as needed.
Additionally, GM recently recalled certain Takatas for malfunctioning airbags. The airbags could potentially rupture while deploying during a crash, which could cause serious injury.
GM has a database wherein an owner can enter their vehicle identification number (VIN), and receive any info on recalls relating to their vehicle.
From January 2000 to July 2022, GM had 671 recalls, affecting over 5 million of its vehicles. GM has had more recalls than Ford and Chrysler, the other two of the top three car manufacturers who have had the most recalls in the last 22 years.
