Texas Congressman Brandon Gill is urging swift passage of the “Big Beautiful Bill,” a legislative priority backed by President Donald Trump, while criticizing Democratic opposition.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the White House has described the bill as the “most pro-American worker bill in history,” claiming it will reduce “waste, fraud, and abuse” in federal programs, including Medicaid. The bill also includes a one-year ban on federal funding for abortion.
The bill originally included a provision blocking states from enforcing artificial intelligence-related laws for a period of 10 years. However, as previously reported by The Dallas Express, Texas state Sen. Angela Paxton — wife of Attorney General Ken Paxton — objected, saying it would hinder state efforts to combat child pornography. The provision was later removed by Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN).
Gill told Fox Business that passing the bill is critical to fulfilling the President’s policy agenda and claimed that Democratic opposition amounts to support for tax increases.
“This is the President’s agenda — this is tax cuts, it’s border security, it’s repealing the green new deal, it’s all of the things that we ran on in the past election cycle,” Gill told Fox Business.
Gill also criticized Democratic lawmakers for opposing the measure.
“Democrats voted to allow illegal aliens to continue receiving Medicaid funds. That is widely unpopular with the American people,” he said.
Gill argued that the public supports the bill’s core provisions, adding, “Democrats need to wake up and listen to the voters and listen to the people.”He also said voters trust Trump to “deliver results for the country.”
The House is expected to vote on the bill on July 3 after a tense standoff among some Republicans over its $3.3 trillion price tag. Despite intraparty concerns, House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters Wednesday, “We have the votes.”
If passed, the bill would mark a major legislative victory for President Trump and GOP leaders ahead of the Fourth of July holiday.
