Another Trump ally has gotten the nod for a top job in the next president’s administration.

President-elect Donald Trump nominated former Sen. Kelly Loeffler of Georgia to lead the Small Business Administration.

“I am very pleased to nominate business leader and former U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler, from the Great State of Georgia, to serve as Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA). Small Businesses are the backbone of our Great Economy. Kelly will bring her experience in business and Washington to reduce red tape, and unleash opportunity for our Small Businesses to grow, innovate, and thrive,” Trump said of his inauguration co-chair on Truth Social, “She will focus on ensuring that SBA is accountable to Taxpayers by cracking down on waste, fraud, and regulatory overreach.”

Loeffler briefly served as the Peach State’s senator from January 2020 to January 2021, after she was appointed by Gov. Brian Kemp to replace the late Johnny Isakson, who had resigned due to health issues. She sought to extend her tenure in the nation’s upper legislative chamber, running against preacher Raphael Warnock and 19 other candidates in the November 2020 special election.

She and Warnock were forced into a runoff election in January 2021. Loeffler’s campaign was dogged by an unfortunate conspiracy of events, including a presidential election dispute and the sudden death of a campaign staffer in a car wreck.

Ultimately, Loeffler was defeated by Warnock by 2 points.

Loeffler’s selection for this role comes after a flurry of media speculation that she would be chosen as Trump’s Secretary of Agriculture. Trump ended up nominating Brooke Rollins to that post.

Trump’s former SBA choice from his first term as president, Linda McMahon, was selected to run the Department of Education in his next administration, The Dallas Express reported.

Loeffler, 54, is married to Jeffrey Craig Sprecher, 69, the founder and CEO of Intercontinental Exchange Inc., an American multinational financial services company. Sprecher is reported to have become a billionaire in 2022, per Forbes. Loeffler is a former co-owner of the Atlanta Dream of the Women’s National Basketball Association.
