Ford is recalling over 270,000 electric and hybrid vehicles across the United States due to a parking system malfunction that could cause them to roll away.
The recall affects certain F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and Maverick models from recent years. The defect poses a significant safety risk as vehicles may inadvertently shift out of park, potentially leading to crashes or injuries.
The problem stems from an integrated park module that may fail to lock properly when drivers shift into park. Affected vehicles include 2022-2026 F-150 Lightning BEV, 2024-2026 Mustang Mach-E, and 2025-2026 Maverick models.
Ford will implement a park module software update at no cost to owners to address the issue. Customers can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 for more information about the recall.
This latest recall follows Ford’s earlier announcement of 108,762 Escape vehicles with potentially defective liftgate hinge covers. The automotive industry has seen multiple recalls recently, including Honda’s voluntary recall of 70,000 Acura ILX vehicles for brake function issues.
Stellantis also recalled 72,509 Ram trucks this week due to instrument panel displays that might go blank “during startup or while driving,” according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The NHTSA typically initiates vehicle recalls after receiving consumer complaints about safety issues. Ford has not reported any accidents or injuries related to the parking module defect.
