Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 273,789 Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs from the 2022-2024 model years due to a potential brake issue that could increase the risk of crashes.

The recall, identified as NHTSA Campaign Number 25V-314, affects 223,315 Ford Expeditions and 50,474 Lincoln Navigators. According to the NHTSA, an installation defect may cause the front brake lines in these vehicles to contact the engine air cleaner outlet pipe, potentially causing a brake fluid leak and loss of brake function.

Ford estimates that only 1% of the recalled vehicles are affected, but the company reported 45 warranty claims for front brake line leaks as of April 17. No accidents or injuries have been linked to the issue.

Ford dealers will inspect the front brake lines and replace them or the air cleaner outlet pipe as needed, free of charge. Owners will receive notification letters mailed between May 26 and May 30, 2025.

In the meantime, drivers can check if their vehicle is affected by visiting nhtsa.gov or Ford’s recall lookup page, using the recall number 25S47. For further assistance, owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 (TTY 888-275-9171).

The recall underscores Ford’s commitment to addressing potential safety issues, even as the company notes the defect’s low prevalence. Owners are encouraged to act promptly once notified to ensure their vehicles remain safe on the road.
