Two major U.S. automobile manufacturers have issued recalls affecting hundreds of thousands of vehicles.
General Motors is recalling 597,630 Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC vehicles in the United States due to potential engine defects that could lead to engine damage or failure, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall, announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on April 24, targets specific models equipped with a 6.2L V8 gas engine.
The affected vehicles include the 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL. The recall addresses manufacturing defects in the connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components, which may cause engine damage or complete failure.
“Engine failure may result in a loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash,” according to the NHTSA.
The recall affects 126,027 Cadillacs, 174,208 Chevrolets, and 297,395 GMC vehicles.
General Motors will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the engines for free. Vehicles requiring repair or replacement will have the work done at no cost. For vehicles that pass inspection, dealers will provide a new oil fill cap, higher viscosity oil, an oil filter replacement, and an updated owner’s manual, also free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on June 9.
Owners can check if their vehicle is affected by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA website. For further assistance, owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, referencing recall number N252494000.
Ford Motor Co. has issued two recalls affecting more than 289,000 vehicles in the United States due to problems with rearview cameras that may display intermittent or blank images, increasing the risk of a crash.
One of the recalls (number 25V270000) posted by the NHTSA covers 2015 model year Ford F-250, F-350, and F-450 trucks, as well as 2015 Ford Expeditions, Lincoln Navigators, and Lincoln MKCs.
“The rearview camera printed circuit board terminal header connector may be loose or damaged, which can result in a blank or distorted image,” the recall notice states.
A separate recall (number 25V273000) includes certain 2022-2023 Ford Broncos. According to Ford, the rearview camera may fail to display a rearview image when the vehicle is placed in reverse.
Ford dealers will replace the defective rearview cameras free of charge. The company expects to mail owner notification letters on May 5, instructing owners to contact dealers for an inspection and replacement. Owners can reach Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 for assistance.
