The FBI has uncovered 2,400 new documents related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, potentially providing fresh insights into one of the most scrutinized events in American history.

These newly discovered records, totaling approximately 14,000 pages, were found during an internal review initiated by President Donald Trump’s executive order to release all documents connected to Kennedy’s assassination.

This new batch of documents, which had never been provided to the JFK Assassination Records Review Board or the National Archives, raises serious questions about the government’s transparency regarding the case. Regardless, the FBI finally informed the White House about the discovery of the new documents last Friday, according to a report from Axios.

Although these documents may not definitively clarify whether Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone or as part of a larger conspiracy, experts believe they could offer crucial details that may shed new light on the events of Kennedy’s death and challenge prevailing theories.

“This is huge. It shows the FBI is taking this seriously,” said Jefferson Morley, a prominent assassination expert and vice president of the Mary Ferrell Foundation.

“The FBI is finally saying, ‘Let’s respond to the president’s order,’ instead of keeping the secrecy going,” Morley added.

The FBI’s decision to release these documents comes 61 years after Kennedy’s assassination in Dallas, Texas, and follows decades of government reluctance to disclose related records. Although President Joe Biden previously ordered a partial release of the assassination records, many critics argue that it fell short of fully complying with the intent of the 1992 JFK Records Act, which mandated the release of all documents related to the assassination.

The FBI will continue to review these new JFK files, and more material could become available to the public in the coming months.

In addition to recent efforts by Trump to uncover more documents related to JFK, RFK, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s deaths, advocacy groups such as the Mary Ferrell Foundation have pressed for further transparency by filing lawsuits.

The foundation has long led the charge for the release of more documents related to the assassination and now views the recent discovery as a potential turning point, according to Morley.
