President Donald Trump has intensified his push against “WOKE” narratives in taxpayer-funded institutions and is now calling for a federal review of the Smithsonian’s biggest museums.

In a Truth Social post, Trump accused the Smithsonian and museums across the country of portraying the United States in a negative light by focusing heavily on slavery and oppression while overlooking the nation’s accomplishments.

“The Smithsonian is OUT OF CONTROL, where everything discussed is how horrible our Country is, how bad Slavery was, and how unaccomplished the downtrodden have been — Nothing about Success, nothing about Brightness, nothing about the Future,” Trump wrote.

“We are not going to allow this to happen, and I have instructed my attorneys to go through the Museums, and start the exact same process that has been done with Colleges and Universities where tremendous progress has been made,” the President added.

The White House officially announced the review in an August 12 letter to Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie Bunch. The directive calls for the museum to submit exhibition plans, curatorial guidelines, and any “programming materials” for review.

“As we prepare to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our Nation’s founding, it is more important than ever that our national museums reflect the unity, progress, and enduring values that define the American story. In this spirit, and in accordance with Executive Order 14253, Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History, we will be leading a comprehensive internal review of selected Smithsonian museums and exhibitions,” the letter reads.

The review will cover all publicly available museum content, collections, and curatorial processes, and overall “narratives” that the museums advertise.

Eight museums are included in the first review phase: the National Museum of American History, the National Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the National Museum of the American Indian, the National Air and Space Museum, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.

The Trump administration has criticized some recent Smithsonian displays for what it views as politically motivated interpretations. Some of the examples flagged were a circus poster described as reflecting “colonial dominance,” an exhibit comparing the Lone Ranger’s partnership with Tonto to America’s “global power,” and a panel linking Mickey Mouse’s early design to “minstrel traditions,” per Fox News.

The White House has declared the review to be purely constructive.

“Our goal is not to interfere with the day-to-day operations of curators or staff, but rather to support a broader vision of excellence that highlights historically accurate, uplifting, and inclusive portrayals of America’s heritage.”

Museums will allegedly be required to submit materials within 30 days, participate in staff interviews within 75 days, and begin implementing revisions within 120 days.

The Smithsonian did not respond to an inquiry for comment from The Dallas Express.
