Two popular dog biscuit brands have been recalled across seven states after testing revealed potential Salmonella contamination.
The Food and Drug Administration reported that Consumers Supply Distributing recalled 4-pound bags of Country Vet Biscuits and Heartland Harvest Dog Biscuits sold in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Montana, and Nebraska.
The recall matters because Salmonella can sicken both pets and their owners. Dogs may experience lethargy, bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting, while humans who handle contaminated products risk nausea, abdominal cramping, and fever.
The affected products include Country Vet Biscuits Original Meaty Flavor (UPC 899623000463) and Heartland Harvest Dog Biscuits Meaty Flavor with Chicken (UPC 840227340691). Both carry September 6, 2026, expiration dates and lot code 40906513.
No illnesses have been reported yet, according to the FDA. The Iowa-based distributor urged customers to return unused portions to stores for full refunds.
Pet owners should watch for decreased appetite or signs of abdominal pain in their animals. Infected pets appearing healthy can still spread the bacteria to other animals and humans through contact.
Humans must thoroughly wash their hands after handling the recalled biscuits. Anyone experiencing symptoms should contact their healthcare provider immediately.
The company established a hotline at 712-202-5609 for consumer questions. Representatives are available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central time.
