President Donald Trump has ordered federal law enforcement to assist in the search for Nancy Guthrie, an 84-year-old woman who disappeared from her Arizona home on January 31.
The missing woman is the mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie. The presidential intervention comes as investigators found DNA evidence at Guthrie’s Catalina Foothills residence and her family responds to ransom note reports.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed investigators discovered what appeared to be blood drops outside the home. The doorbell camera was also removed from its base, though the timing remains unclear.
Trump announced his decision on Truth Social after speaking with Savannah Guthrie on February 4: “I spoke with Savannah Guthrie, and let her know that I am directing ALL Federal Law Enforcement to be at the family’s, and Local Law Enforcement’s, complete disposal, IMMEDIATELY.”
The President added, “We are deploying all resources to get her mother home safely. The prayers of our Nation are with her and her family. GOD BLESS AND PROTECT NANCY!”
Nancy Guthrie failed to appear at church on February 1, prompting the missing person report. Sheriff Nanos believes she was taken against her will.
More than 100 investigators have collected DNA samples and reviewed security footage from the residence. The sheriff’s department has not ruled out kidnapping or abduction.
Savannah Guthrie released a video alongside her siblings on February 4, addressing media reports about a ransom letter.
“We, too, have heard the reports about a ransom letter in the media. As a family, we are doing everything that we can. We are ready to talk,” she said.
The family demanded proof of life before proceeding with any negotiations.
“We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you, and we are ready to listen. Please reach out to us,” Savannah Guthrie continued.
She ended with a message to her mother: “Mommy, if you are hearing this, you are a strong woman. You are God’s precious daughter, Nancy.”
Authorities urge anyone with information about Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts to call 911 immediately. Tips can also be submitted through the Pima County Sheriff’s Department’s online portal.
