Dallas recently ranked as one of the cities most resilient to a takeover of artificial intelligence in the workplace.

The City of Dallas ranked No.2 for its resistance to AI job losses this decade, according to a recent report by Casinos.us. Overall, Phoenix and Dallas were the two cities most resilient to a takeover due to their high diversity of job opportunities.

“Larger cities score higher in part because they have a diverse job landscape, which means a lot of available jobs and projected job growth are going to land in industries that probably won’t be taken over by robots for a few more years,” reads the report.

On the other hand, smaller cities like Providence, Road Island (No.1), Hartford, Connecticut (No.2), and Richmond, Virginia (No.3) are considered the most likely to experience job losses at the hands of AI.

“It’s no secret that just about every industry is currently going through or will go through a whirlwind of changes as AI becomes more mainstream,” the report states.

For those concerned about maintaining a career in the face of the AI takeover, the report advises moving to a city where ”job diversification and economic growth mean humans will still be relevant in a few years.”

While Dallas and Houston ranked in the top five, Austin (No.18) ranked lower due to its presence as a tech hub.

In general, tech hubs like Austin, Seattle (No.6), San Francisco (No.19), San Jose (No.28), and Raleigh (No.31) all scored rather high in the ranking. “This could very well be because AI-related jobs are going to be the new norm in a relatively short time, but it could also be because technology is likely going to be the industry that sees the largest boom because of automation,” explains the report.

“Let’s learn a lesson from cities that used to have a heavy focus on manufacturing, like Detroit and Cleveland. A massive portion of the population worked in a single industry, which was bad news when that industry became automated. There’s security in diversity,” the report reads.
