Former President Donald Trump’s legal team has asked a Georgia court to throw out the results of a grand jury probe into possible 2020 election interference.
Attorneys for Trump filed a 51-page motion with the Fulton County Superior Court in Atlanta on Monday, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
The filing asks the court to disqualify Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from prosecuting the case, which is based on a special purpose grand jury’s investigation.
Trump’s legal team argued that statements made by grand jurors, after their term of service in media interviews, tainted the process.
“The whole world has watched the process of the (special purpose grand jury) unfold and what they have witnessed was a process that was confusing, flawed and, at times, unconstitutional,” the filing stated.
“Given the scrutiny and gravity of the investigation and those individuals involved — namely, the movant President Donald J. Trump, this process should have been handled correctly, fairly and with deference to the law and the highest ethical standards.”
The legal activity in Georgia is separate from a case in New York, where a grand jury is considering an indictment for alleged payments Trump made in 2016 to an adult film actress.
