U.S. Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina announced on Monday that he’s running for president in 2024.
The Republican joins a primary field that includes former President Donald Trump, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and radio host Larry Elder.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to join the race later this week.
Scott filed notice last week that he would be running, as reported by The Dallas Express. He announced his candidacy before a crowd at Charleston Southern University, his alma mater.
“We live in the land where it is possible for a kid raised in poverty by a single mother in a small apartment to one day serve in the People’s House and maybe even the White House,” Scott said. “This is the greatest country on God’s green Earth.”
