On January 9, Bob Saget was found dead in his hotel room. On February 9, the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office in Florida released the autopsy report stating that the cause of death was from head trauma from an unwitnessed and accidental fall.

“The authorities have determined that Bob passed away from head trauma.” Saget’s family said in a statement. “They have concluded that he accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it and went to sleep. No drugs or alcohol were involved.”

Orange County’s Medical Examiner’s Office stated that it looked as though Bob Saget accidentally fell backward, causing the head trauma. Joshua Stephany, Medical Examiner in Orlando, confirmed the toxicology analysis reported no toxins or illicit drugs were found in his body.

The report showed a fracture at the base of Saget’s skull, an abrasion on the scalp, fractures around the eye sockets, bruises on the brain, subdural hematoma, and bleeding between the tissue and brain.

Saget tested positive for COVID-19, but his respiratory system was not inflamed. According to the CDC, an individual can still test positive after three months of the initial infection. NBC 2 stated that during a podcast, one week before Saget’s death, he spoke about dealing with a previous case of COVID-19.

Bob Saget was in Florida last month to perform his stand-up comedy show, I Don’t Do Negative Comedy Tour, and was seen live on the stage the night before he was found dead. Saget was supposed to be checking out of the hotel on January 9, and his family could not get a hold of him. Staff at the Ritz-Carlton then performed a welfare check.

Saget’s family said they continue to mourn his loss and asked fans to think of him fondly.

“As we continue to mourn together, we ask everyone to remember the love and laughter that Bob brought to this world, and the lessons he taught us all: to be kind to everyone, to let the people you love know you love them, and to face difficult times with hugs and laughter.”
