BMW is recalling 851 vehicles due to a faulty head airbag inflator that could rupture or leak gas, increasing the risk of injury.
The recall affects specific 2014-2015 models, including the 2 Series, 3 Series, and 4 Series.
The defective airbags pose a serious safety hazard to drivers and passengers, as inflator failures during crashes could result in inadequate protection or dangerous shrapnel.
According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notice, the vehicle’s head airbag inflator “may fail at the weld joint,” which could cause gas to leak from the inflator or lead to an inflator rupture, increasing the risk of injury.
The recall covers 2014 models of the 4 Series Coupe (428i, 428i xDrive, 435i, 435i xDrive) and 3 Series Sedan (320i, 320i xDrive, 328i, 328i xDrive, 335i, 335i xDrive). Also included are 2014-2015 2 Series Coupe models (228i, 228i xDrive, M235i, M235i xDrive).
Owners can take their vehicles to any BMW dealership for free head airbag replacement. The automaker will mail notification letters to affected owners on February 6.
