The Trump Administration is considering a plan to offer a monetary incentive to encourage Americans to have more babies amid falling birth rates in the country.
Following years of birthrate decline, the Trump administration is considering ideas to help reverse the trend, including a possible financial incentive to assist families. One policy pitched to the administration is a $5,000 “baby bonus” to every American mother after she gives birth.
“Sounds like a good idea to me,” the President said on Tuesday when asked about the proposal, per ABC.
While birth rates may be falling nationwide, Dallas boasts one of the top rates in the country when compared to other major cities. Last year, The Dallas Express reported that 6.3% of women in the city aged 15 to 50 gave birth in 2022, the second highest of the 37 largest cities in the United States. It was also a slight increase from the year prior.
For comparison, the rate was 5.2% nationwide in 2022.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told ABC News that President Trump is “proudly implementing policies to uplift American families.”
“The president wants America to be a country where all children can safely grow up and achieve the American dream. As a mother myself, I am proud to work for a president who is taking significant action to leave a better country for the next generation,” she said.
Vice President J.D. Vance has also expressed support for incentives to encourage more childbirths. During the 2024 campaign, Vance said he would love to see a $5,000 payment per birth.
“I want more happy children in our country, and I want beautiful young men and women who are eager to welcome them into the world and eager to raise them. And it is the task of our government to make it easier for young moms and dads to afford to have kids, to bring them into the world and to welcome them as the blessings that we know they are,” said Vance.
