An American Airlines passenger allegedly stole from two passengers sitting close to him on a flight from Buenos Aires to Miami.

As stated in a federal complaint, the incident happened on July 5 during the nine-and-a-half-hour journey aboard flight 900. The flight crew said that Diego Sebastian Radio “walked up and down the airplane aisle” repeatedly. They also said he sat in a seat not assigned to him for a while and was seen holding what seemed to be a female wallet.

A flight attendant who had noticed that 29-year-old Radio was behaving suspiciously during the flight asked a passenger to check that her belongings were intact. The woman, who had been traveling with her daughter, found that her money was missing, so the crew alerted the U.S. Customs & Border Patrol.

A second woman seated behind the first victim had also checked her belongings after hearing the flight attendant mention suspicious activity. She discovered her wallet had been unzipped and that her two credit cards and some cash had gone missing.

Upon arrival in Miami, authorities apprehended Radio, who searched his backpack and found loose currency totaling $10,732. The sum of 14,320 Argentine Pesos — worth close to 110 USD — was also found in his possession. Authorities also discovered two credit cards in his jacket pocket.

The two victims confirmed to authorities that their cash and credit cards were missing from their carry-on luggage. The loose currency found on Radio matched the amounts the victims said were missing. The first woman also identified some of her U.S. bills as she remembered that they had a unique stamp.

Radio’s wallet was also found in the backpack, with approximately $3,000. It is believed that Radio had that money when he boarded the plane.

According to court documents, the cards found on Radio matched the name of one of the second victims, who had been traveling with her husband.

Radio was taken into custody and charged with theft. Authorities say he admitted to the thefts.

“American Airlines flight 900, with service from Buenos Aires (EZE) to Miami (MIA), was met by law enforcement and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents upon arrival in Miami due to reports of possible theft by a customer on board. The individual was taken into custody by CBP agents,” Laura Masvidal, a spokeswoman for the Fort Worth-based airline, told PEOPLE
