American Airlines is making travel easier for college football fans this bowl season by adding extra flights to key destinations.
With Southern Methodist University heading to Pennsylvania for their Dec. 21 showdown against Penn State, the Fort Worth-based airline announced additional routes from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to Harrisburg International Airport, CBS News reported.
The added flight departs on Dec. 20 to accommodate fans eager to cheer on the Mustangs. To ensure a smooth return, American has also scheduled an extra flight back to Dallas on Dec. 22, regardless of the game’s outcome.
This game marks a critical matchup, as the winner will advance to face Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl on Dec. 31.
American Airlines is already preparing for the possibility of that game by scheduling an additional flight on the morning of Dec. 31 for Boise State fans traveling from Boise Airport to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. However, the airline has yet to confirm if similar flights will be available out of Dallas should SMU secure their spot in the Fiesta Bowl.
The travel perks extend beyond the SMU matchup.
American Airlines is also catering to Arizona State University fans heading to the Peach Bowl on Jan. 1. An extra flight will depart Phoenix for Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Dec. 31, ensuring fans can make it to the high-stakes game. A return flight has also been added to get Sun Devils fans back home after the Peach Bowl. This comes amid anticipation that the Texas Longhorns could advance to face Arizona State, should they defeat Clemson on Dec. 21.
With college football bowl season heating up, demand for flights is soaring. American Airlines has strategically added these routes to support passionate fans looking to follow their teams through the playoffs.
The airline’s decision highlights the significance of college football in Texas and beyond, where loyal fanbases drive demand for game-day travel.
While current routes focus on Dec. 20 through Jan. 1 games, American Airlines confirmed that more flights could be added if teams advance further into the playoffs. This flexibility provides peace of mind for fans hoping their teams will continue their championship journeys.
Tickets for the newly announced routes are already available, but given the excitement surrounding bowl games, fans are encouraged to book their seats as soon as possible to secure travel.
