Texas resident and Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia is reportedly set to join Elon Musk in his cost-cutting campaign across the federal government.

Gebbia, who also serves on Tesla’s board, is rumored to be gearing up to join Musk’s cost-cutting group, the Department of Government Efficiency, better known as DOGE.

So far, the details of what Gebbia will do in the federal government remain a mystery.

The news of Gebbia joining Musk is notable given Gebbia’s former support for the Democrats. Gebbia backed Hillary Clinton with a $200,000 contribution in 2016 and later gave the same amount to Biden during his 2020 general election run. Gebbie contributed a further $20,000 to Biden’s re-election run in 2023.

“I have a confession to make… I voted Republican last November,” Gebbia wrote on X on January 19, 2025, adding about Trump, “He cares about bringing common sense back to our country. (So do I.)”

In his post, Gebbia explained that “So, if like me and many others, you also had a woke-up call, it’s time to talk about it. Better late than never.”

The Airbnb co-founder, who could end up in public service, boasts a net worth of nearly $9 billion, according to Bloomberg. His move away from the Democratic Party is at least in part due to his support for Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a political ally of Gebbia who has been in the crosshairs of the Democrats.

Last month, Gebbia attended RFK’s confirmation hearing to become the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. Gebbia did not mince words, writing on the social media platform X that it was a “big day ahead for the future of health in America.”

As reported by The Dallas Express, RFK Jr. was ultimately confirmed as Trump’s new Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services despite strong opposition from Democrats.

“The Secretary of Health and Human Services is a life-long Democrat and environmental lawyer, who spent his life fighting corporate waste dumping and regulatory capture by Big Pharma,” wrote journalist Glenn Greenwald on X on February 13.
