A New Zealand-based company has voluntarily recalled several batches of infant formula sold in the United States after testing detected a toxin linked to foodborne illness.

The recall involves a2 Platinum Premium USA label infant formula for babies ages 0 to 12 months, produced by The a2 Milk Company. The affected products were sold through online retailers, including Amazon, as well as at Meijer stores.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, no illnesses or injuries have been reported. However, consumers are urged to dispose of any formula with the following batch numbers: 2210269454, 2210324609, and 2210321712, with “use by” dates of 7/15/2026, 1/21/2027, and 1/15/2027, respectively.

The recall affects more than 63,000 tins, with about 16,428 units believed to have reached consumers. The company said the action was taken after additional testing found cereulide, a toxin produced by certain bacteria that can cause nausea, vomiting, and other symptoms.

Cereulide is heat-stable, meaning it can remain in food even after heating or preparation. Health officials note that symptoms can appear within hours of ingestion and may pose particular risks for infants.

The company said the recalled formula had already been discontinued and removed from sale before the recall was announced. It was originally imported into the United States as part of a federal effort to address a nationwide formula shortage.

Officials said the recall applies only to the U.S. version of the product and not to similar formulas sold in other countries.

The company is working with federal regulators as the investigation continues. Consumers may contact the company with any questions about the recalled product at 1-844-422-6455 or by visiting the company’s website at a2platinum.com.
