Six Flags Over Texas has begun testing its massive new roller coaster, Tormenta Rampaging Run, as the Arlington theme park prepares to debut what officials say will be the world’s first giga dive coaster.

The park recently shared video footage showing trains running along the completed track as crews conduct testing and final safety checks ahead of the ride’s opening later in 2026.

Designed by Swiss coaster manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard, the attraction will stand 309 feet tall and reach speeds of up to 87 mph, making it the tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster ever built, according to the park.

Tormenta Rampaging Run will feature a 285-foot beyond-vertical drop at a 95-degree angle after riders climb more than 300 feet into the air. The coaster stretches across 4,199 feet of track and is expected to break six world records.

Those records include the tallest dive coaster, the fastest dive coaster, the longest dive coaster, the highest 95-degree drop, the tallest vertical loop, and the highest Immelmann inversion.

The vertical loop will rise 179 feet above the ground, while the Immelmann inversion will peak at 218 feet.

The ride is themed around the Running of the Bulls tradition and will anchor a newly developed Spanish-inspired area called Rancho de la Tormenta. The expansion will also include a new restaurant, Cocina Abuela.

Park officials said the coaster represents a major addition during the park’s 65th anniversary year. Six Flags Over Texas opened in Arlington on Aug. 1, 1961, becoming the first park in the Six Flags chain.

Mark Boyer, vice president and park manager for the park, described the project as “a true testament to our commitment to providing world-class thrills and innovation,” per InterPark.

Sophie Bolliger, president of Bolliger & Mabillard, said the attraction “introduces a completely new ride category, blending giga coaster heights with the fun and thrill of a dive coaster,” according to InterPark.

Construction on the coaster has been visible for months along Interstate 30. Track work was completed in March, and crews later placed trains on the track while removing major construction equipment from the site.

The new attraction replaces the former La Vibora roller coaster, which closed in 2024 after operating for nearly 40 years in the park’s Spain section.

The park also announced plans to refurbish the queue area for the Mr. Freeze ride, adding new scenes and effects later in 2026.

An official opening date for Tormenta Rampaging Run has not yet been announced.
