Weekend Events in the DFW

It is summertime, and there is plenty to do in the metroplex. Here are some DFW area events this weekend:

2023 Lion Dance National Championships:

The USA Dragon and Lion Dance Sports Association will host its 2023 Lion Dance National Championships at Asia Times Square and The Epic in Grand Prairie, where the country’s best teams will show off their moves in traditional and high pole competitions.

The two-day event showcases lion dancing skill sets from teams across the United States. It will feature a traditional competition on Saturday at Asia Times Square and the new high pole (Jongs) competition on Sunday at The Epic.

The winner of the traditional competition will receive a $1,500 cash prize, the first runner-up will receive $1,000, and the second runner-up will receive $500.

The Jong competition will award $2,000 to the winner, $1,500 to the first runner-up, and $1,000 to the second runner-up.

Admission is $35 for a single day or $65 for both.

Doors open at 8 a.m. on Saturday, with competition scheduled from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The event will start at 10 a.m. on Sunday, with an awards ceremony immediately following the day’s competitions.

DFW GI Joe & Action Figure Show:

Prepare for an epic experience as the 2023 DFW G.I. Joe & Action Figure Show takes over the Grapevine Convention Center on Saturday.

The expo spans over 10,000 square feet of dealer space and boasts an impressive collection of vintage and new action figures and accessories.

Collectors can hunt down rare and coveted pieces while unearthing a treasure trove of collectibles, including iconic favorites from brands like G.I. Joe, Star Wars, Marvel Comics, and more.

This event will celebrate the passion and excitement of the action-figure world. It attracts action-figure enthusiasts from around the country and will be one of the largest shows of its kind in Texas.

The show runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. General admission is $10. Early bird admission costs $15 per person. Members of the armed services that have an active ID can purchase a general admission ticket for $5. Children 10 and under can enter for free.

The Cambodian Buddhist Temple of Dallas Annual Street Food Fundraiser:

The Cambodian Buddhist Temple of Dallas, in partnership with its cultural group, Selepak Khmer Angkor, will host its annual pop-up street food fundraiser.

Dallas-area residents can indulge in a tantalizing array of Southeast Asian cuisine on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Multiple vendors will serve mouthwatering dishes, delectable treats, and refreshing drinks that showcase the region’s diverse flavors.

The temple’s food booth will offer authentic Cambodian delicacies as a special treat.

Attendees’ taste buds will delight in taking an unforgettable culinary tour as the samplings take them on a journey through Southeast Asia.

Barks and Brews! at White Rock Brewing Co:  

In partnership with Ace’s Place Animal Rescue, White Rock Brewing Co. is hosting an adoption and fostering event at its beer garden from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

The event will provide an excellent opportunity for dog lovers to make a difference by adopting or fostering a furry friend in need.

For those in the market for playful or cuddly pups, the event is a chance to find the perfect match while contributing to the cause of animal rescue.
