A massive fire erupted at a business complex near Dallas Love Field Airport late Monday evening, sending flames and plumes of smoke into the air and prompting a large-scale response from the Dallas Fire-Rescue team.

The blaze began around 10:30 p.m. at 1738 Empire Central Drive, close to the intersection of Harry Hines Boulevard and Royal Lane. Initial reports from multiple 911 callers suggested that the flames were burning grass or trees in the area. However, upon arrival, firefighters quickly identified the source of the fire as a large stack of wooden pallets, according to NBC 5 DFW.

High winds helped spread the fire to six surrounding warehouses and a nearby transfer station. Within an hour, the fire was escalated to a “3-alarm response,” requiring around 60 to 70 firefighters to fight the flames throughout the night until early Tuesday morning. The flames were visible from miles away.

Response time was critical to control the massive fire. Currently, Dallas Fire-Rescue’s Incident and Response Time Database shows that 95% of reported structural fires within the city have a response time of five minutes and twenty seconds or less.
