As the ongoing U.S. Highway 380 construction project in Denton County enters its third year, the Texas Department of Transportation has announced a roadway closure that could affect travelers in the area for quite some time.

The westbound U.S. 380 ramp connecting commuters to the northbound lanes of U.S. 377 closed on Wednesday for construction and is anticipated to remain closed until mid-March, the Denton Record-Chronicle reported.

Detour signs have been posted to guide drivers to an alternate route. However, the road closure could cause delays, and drivers are encouraged to plan ahead for longer commute times or choose another route to their destination to avoid the area altogether.

The ramp closure is part of a larger $140 million three-year TxDOT project which began in January of 2022. The goal is to widen a 10-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 380 between U.S. 377 and County Road 26 to three lanes in each direction of the east-west route, adding overpasses at five locations to avoid intersections. In addition, frontage roads will be improved, with turn lanes added.
