Two separate incidents involving trains in the Dallas-Fort Worth area left one man in critical condition and another pedestrian seriously injured, prompting road closures and ongoing investigations.
Pedestrian Struck by TEXRail Train in North Richland Hills: A pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a TEXRail train early Monday near Davis Boulevard and Main Street in North Richland Hills. The North Richland Hills Fire Department reported the incident occurred around 5:45 a.m., prompting the closure of Davis Boulevard.
Fire crews, including Quint 225 and Medic 225, arrived to find one person with serious injuries and transported them to a local trauma hospital. The condition of the pedestrian remains undisclosed. The TEXRail train, operated by Trinity Metro and servicing routes from downtown Fort Worth to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, was stationary at the scene, with crossing arms down, causing delays.
Authorities reopened Davis Boulevard just before 8 a.m. Details about the pedestrian’s identity, the number of passengers on the train, and the circumstances of the incident have not been released. Trinity Metro is working to provide further updates.
Fort Worth Man Critically Injured in Truck-Train Collision: Ignacio Zapata, a Fort Worth father, is fighting for his life after his truck collided with a train on Saturday near 3400 Ryan Avenue. Fort Worth police reported that the crash occurred at a railroad crossing, severely damaging the front of Zapata’s vehicle. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
Zapata’s daughter, Idalia Zapata, described him as “a wonderful man, hardworking, loving,” who had left home to pick up food when the accident occurred. A neighbor alerted the family after witnessing the crash.
“And he said that he had been involved in an accident, by the train had hit him,” Idalia recounted, NBC 5 DFW reported. “I live like five minutes away, so I rushed to it, and his truck was there.”
The family, who had expected to celebrate Father’s Day with Zapata, instead spent the day gathered at his hospital bedside.
“I just want my dad back,” Idalia said. “I just want him to wake up today, that’s it.”
She noted the family is in shock and uncertain about how the collision occurred, adding that Zapata may not recall the event if he recovers. The Zapata family is raising funds for his medical expenses. Police have not released additional details about the incident or the train involved.
Authorities are investigating both incidents, and no further information about the causes or potential contributing factors has been disclosed. As investigations continue, the Fort Worth community is urged to remain cautious around railroad crossings.
