Two people were injured Wednesday morning when a helicopter crashed near Texas Motor Speedway in Denton County.

The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. near the Bell Helicopter test facility in the 16000 block of Victory Circle West in Northlake, according to first responders and county officials.

Crews from Denton County Emergency Services District No. 1 arrived to find a single helicopter on its side in a field north of the speedway.

Officials said two injured people were treated at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital. Authorities did not release details about the nature or severity of the injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration identified the aircraft as a Robinson R66 helicopter that suffered damage during what it described as a hard landing. The agency said an investigation into the crash has been launched.

Photos released by first responders showed heavy damage to the helicopter, including damage to the main rotor blades and canopy. Debris, including what appeared to be part of a seat, could also be seen scattered in the grass near the aircraft.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
