Two boaters went missing on Lake Lewisville earlier this week. Now, responders have recovered their bodies.
After the victims’ boat was found beached on June 17, Texas Game Wardens responded to search for them, according to a statement shared with The Dallas Express by Maggie Berger, public information officer for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Officials searched for the next two days, and on June 19, they found their bodies.
Game wardens in Denton County responded to Lake Lewisville on the evening of June 17 and launched a search.
Officials do not have an exact location for the drownings, but believe they happened “on Lake Lewisville near the old dam,” Berger told The Dallas Express. Similarly, officials do not have an exact time, but believe the victims drowned that afternoon.
The search continued the next day, when the Army Corps of Engineers joined the effort, according to the statement. The game wardens’ Underwater Search and Recovery Team and others recovered the male victim the morning of June 19, and they recovered the female victim that afternoon. Both victims were released to the Denton County Medical Examiner.
“We are not releasing victim identities at this time out of respect to their families’ wishes,” the statement reads.
According to Berger, the Denton County Sheriff’s Office and the Lewisville Fire Department responded to the incident along with the Texas Game Wardens and the Army Corps of Engineers.
“We lead recovery efforts and will file the boating accident report,” she said. “There will be no other investigation on top of that.”
Berger said officials are “unable to speculate” on what caused the deaths.
“Our thoughts are with the victims’ families during this difficult time,” she said.
