A home in Lewisville sustained major damage Monday after a Tesla charger allegedly sparked a fire, according to local officials.
The blaze broke out around 12:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Meadowview Way, spreading from the garage to the game room and second-floor attic, the Lewisville Fire Department said. The two-alarm fire caused extensive structural damage, including holes in the roof above the garage.
According to the City of Lewisville, the homeowner had just returned and plugged in her Tesla vehicle when she observed “electrical arcing coming from the charger unit,” as reported by CBS News.
She managed to move the Tesla out of the garage and park it down the street, but the charging unit reportedly caught fire.
Flames quickly engulfed the garage, destroying a Lexus and spreading to the rest of the home.
Firefighters from Lewisville, Flower Mound, Lake Cities, Carrollton, and The Colony responded and had the fire under control by 1:15 p.m. One Lewisville firefighter was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion and later released. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
