A massive new surf park and resort is set to break ground just outside of Dallas.
The Cannon Beach Surf and Adventure Park is set to be a $200 million project that will feature a surf lagoon, resort hotel, and other amenities across 35 acres in McKinney.
The ambitious project is being led by Cannon Development Group, the firm behind a similar surf park that opened last year in Mesa, Arizona. The forthcoming North Texas destination will include a four-acre lagoon that includes stationary surf waves. Expect sandy beaches and a 17-foot cliff diving pool.
The surf lagoon will also be connected to a resort hotel. The resort will feature cabanas, lounge areas, event spaces, and even a rooftop pool.
Beyond surfing, the new complex will have a movie theatre, health club, skatepark, and bowling alley. Commercial, office, and retail space is also in the works.
“We cannot be more excited to bring a beach paradise to McKinney, whose leadership shares our unparalleled vision for a world-class, family-friendly destination that will quite literally bring the ocean to its backyard,” said developer Cole Cannon, per Secret Dallas.
“Cannon Beach promises to offer something for everyone, from families and thrillseekers to professionals and entrepreneurs.”
Cannon Beach aims to create over 700 local jobs and attract 300,000 visitors each year, generating $2 billion in economic impact. In June, McKinney City Council approved a $4 million allocation to support the project.
Phase one of the Cannon Beach Surf and Adventure Park will include the hotel and surf lagoon, opening as early as 2026.
Cannon Beach will not be the only surf destination in North Texas. Last year, The Dallas Express reported on Fireside Surf in The Colony’s Grandscape development, a surf-focused restaurant that cost upwards of $10 million to construct. The novel establishment offers patrons a chance to catch some waves in their pool before enjoying meals like Ahi Tuna Burgers or their Big Kahuna Breakfast Burrito.
