Kroger Co. is making a significant investment in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with plans to open four new stores in the region.

The supermarket operator plans to spend $160 million opening the new stores in the metroplex. The first location is set to open this fall in Fort Worth at 113 E. Bonds Ranch Road. Another Fort Worth location is also on the docket, set to open at Sendera Ranch Boulevard and Rancho Canyon Way next year.

In April, the grocer also began construction on a location at U.S. 380 and FM 2931 in Little Elm. Lastly, Kroger is set to start building a store in Anna this fall at the intersection of Rosamond Parkway and U.S. 75.

The four new locations will each be over 120,000 square feet in size, cost roughly $40 million, and employ between 250 and 300 people, according to John Votava, director of corporate affairs for the DFW region, per the Dallas Business Journal.

Kroger already operates 93 stores employing roughly 11,000 people throughout the metroplex.

Last year, The Dallas Express reported that Albertsons scrapped plans to merge with Kroger and moved to sue the grocery chain for allegedly failing to gain approval on a previously proposed $24.6 billion deal. The lawsuit came soon after a court ruling blocked a potential merger between the two companies, alleging the move would stifle competition and drive up the prices of essential household items for millions of Americans.
