More stores are set to open in Dallas-Fort Worth with plans for a new Target and Sprouts Farmers Market in the metroplex.

A new Sprouts Farmers Market location in Providence Village is set to open by mid-October this year at University Drive and Main Street. The roughly 23,000-square-foot store is expected to begin construction by the end of July, according to a state filing. The filing does not include any information about the design team behind the new store. The cost of the construction is just over $5 million.

Providence Village, a relatively new town located in Denton County, has a population of 7,500 people as of 2021. What began as a master-planned community in 2000 was later incorporated in May 2010 following a community vote.

The Phoenix, Arizona-based supermarket chain, which opened in 2002, specializes in fresh produce, organic foods, supplements, and other health-focused products. The company operates over 380 stores across the United States, with over 50 located in the Lone Star State. News of Sprout’s opening comes amid a torrent of new grocery store openings in DFW from the likes of H-E-B, Tom Thumb, Kroger, and others.

The metroplex is also getting a giant new Target, reported The Dallas Morning News. The store will be located in Fort Worth at the northwest corner of McPherson Boulevard and Chisholm Trail Parkway. Once complete, it will be one of the retailer’s largest locations at 149,000 square feet. For comparison, a typical Target is around 125,000 square feet.

Across Texas, Target operates 156 locations — 8% of all Target stores, the second most of any state after California, which operates 317 locations (16% of all Target stores).
