A pedestrian was killed by a semi-truck on a Southlake highway early Saturday morning after attempting to cross the road following a car crash with his own vehicle.
The fatal accident occurred around 4 a.m. on January 10 on the westbound State Highway 114.
Southlake police responded to the 1100 block of East State Highway 114 westbound after receiving reports of the collision. The man had been involved in a single-vehicle crash minutes before the fatal strike.
After his initial accident, the victim attempted to cross the westbound lanes on foot. A semi-truck struck him during this crossing attempt.
Emergency responders pronounced the man dead at the scene. Authorities have not released his identity pending notification of his family.
The truck driver remained at the crash site and is cooperating with investigators. Police continue examining the circumstances of both crashes.
All westbound lanes of State Highway 114 have reopened to traffic. The Southlake Department of Public Safety is handling the ongoing investigation.
