More rounds of severe weather and “oppressive” temperatures are expected for the remainder of the week into the weekend.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has predicted chances for showers and thunderstorms as well as elevated temperatures this weekend into the following week. Officials warn that these developing storms have the potential to be severe beginning on Thursday.

Scattered severe storms will be possible across the region during the afternoon into the overnight hours as a dry line approaches from the west, the NWS said.

Bianca Garcia with the NWS in Fort Worth told The Dallas Express that current humid conditions and the approaching dry line would create the “instability” needed to spawn these storms.

The storms will begin to develop west of the metroplex, Garcia explained.

“After that, we will see the storms grow into a complex or a cluster of thunderstorms and surge east and that’s what we expect will impact the DFW metroplex in most of North Texas through the evening hours,” she said.

Weather officials advise that any developed storms will quickly become severe. Hazards associated with these storms will be large hail, damaging winds, and an isolated tornado.

Garcia noted that the region will see a break from severe weather on June 16, but elevated temperatures will present a new threat.

“The main weather story for tomorrow will be the oppressive heat, and we’ll have a heat advisory in effect which includes the metroplex and then further south into Central Texas, where we have heat in values ranging from about 105 to 110,” said Garcia.

One more round of possibly severe weather is expected for Saturday before hot and dry conditions arrive and persist across the region.

Weather officials had initially predicted that triple-digit temperatures would arrive in the metroplex on Friday, as previously reported by The Dallas Express. They now expect the first day of triple-digit temperatures to be Monday, while the weekend is anticipated to remain in the high 90s.

Citizens are advised to remain weather aware as conditions unfold.
