Major overnight closures on Plano Road at Interstate 635 will disrupt traffic flow this week, as crews continue work on the massive LBJ East reconstruction project.
All lanes of Plano Road will be closed at I-635 between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. through July 28. Additionally, I-635 will be narrowed to single lanes in both directions from Plano Road west to Central Expressway during the same overnight hours.
The closures represent the latest phase of disruptions along Garland’s busiest freeway corridor, part of a five-year, $1.7 billion highway expansion. Upon completion, the project will add general-purpose lanes and reconstruct existing toll lanes between U.S. Highway 75 and Interstate 30.
Several other construction zones will impact Garland drivers this week. The westbound I-635 entrance ramp at Garland Avenue closes nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Monday morning, July 28.
Kingsley Road and Walnut Hill Lane have been shuttered at I-635 since April 11 for an estimated four-month construction period. All lanes of Woodmeadow Parkway at La Prada Drive will be closed on July 7 and remain blocked through fall 2025.
U-turn lanes between I-635 frontage roads at Miller Road face intermittent closures between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. through Sunday. Various frontage road lanes approaching Miller may close during those same hours.
The I-30 interchange presents additional challenges for weekend travelers. Connector ramps from I-30 to northbound I-635 close overnight Thursday through Sunday morning, with extended weekend hours.
Galloway Avenue at I-635 faces similar overnight closures through the weekend. All scheduled closures remain subject to weather conditions, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
The expanded highway will ultimately feature 10 general-purpose lanes and two tolled managed lanes. The project also includes continuous frontage roads and numerous intersection improvements throughout the corridor.
