A pedestrian was killed and another injured on Tuesday morning when a collision between two SUVs at a busy Plano intersection sent one vehicle rolling onto a sidewalk, police said.
Plano Police responded to the crash around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Parkwood Boulevard and Legacy Drive. According to investigators, a westbound gray Kia sedan, turning left onto Parkwood, struck the rear driver’s side of an eastbound blue Ford Bronco.
The impact caused the Bronco to roll over, striking two pedestrians on the sidewalk.
Plano Fire-Rescue transported both pedestrians to a local hospital, where one was pronounced dead. Authorities are withholding the deceased’s identity until the next of kin are notified. The second pedestrian sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Neither driver was injured.
“This is a tragic deal,” said Plano Police spokesperson Jerry Minton, per WFAA. “You got two people walking on the sidewalk, they’re minding their own business, going to work or going to get coffee or whatever they were doing, and all of a sudden this happens to them.”
The intersection, a known trouble spot, was cordoned off for hours as investigators processed the scene. A local worker, speaking to WFAA, described frequent accidents at the corner.
“All the years I’ve been here, there’s been so many accidents at this intersection. So many wrecks we even keep a tally,” she said, urging drivers to “slow down” and “be more cautious, especially as many pedestrians that are in this area and the people who walk through here during lunch time, breakfast, and all day long.”
Police have not indicated whether charges will be filed as the investigation continues. Authorities are asking drivers to exercise caution in the area.
