Nine people were rescued after being stuck on a roller coaster at Grand Prairie’s Traders Village.
At approximately 4 p.m. on Sunday, the Grand Prairie Fire Department, police, and EMS received a call from Traders Village stating that a roller coaster had broken down and the passengers needed help exiting.
According to witnesses, the roller coaster broke down mid-ride, and the passengers onboard were stuck high above ground, per WFAA. Firefighters rescued each passenger one by one, slowly bringing them down from the roller coaster to the ground using a rappel line.
All nine passengers were rescued safely without injury.
North Texas is home to multiple amusement parks, perhaps the most well-known of which is Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington.
In August, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor announced that the 47-acre water park would receive a major upgrade, including a new coastal-themed area with a 58,000-square-foot multi-level interactive play structure for kids that incorporates 110 water features, seven water slides, and a 1,000-gallon Texas-sized tipping bucket, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
Additionally, the upgrade will include a seven-water-slide complex with a mini-tornado water slide and a mini-wave slide, which will provide a gentler ride option for water parkgoers.
The park’s on-site restaurant will also receive renovations with a new food and beverage menu.
Last year, Six Flags was featured on a list of the 12 most anticipated new roller coasters, as reported by The Dallas Express.
The amusement park’s new ride, “Aquaman: Power Wave,” made the list as a new superhero-inspired ride. The ride combines the elements of both a water ride and a roller coaster to channel Aquaman.
Passengers are propelled forward and backward, reaching up to 63 miles per hour. The ride culminates in a 90-degree dive into a massive splashdown.
Also in Texas, Camp Fimfo Resort in New Braunfels launched Cliff Carver last year, per DX.
The coaster takes passengers on a journey through wooded areas in the scenic Hill Country, hitting speeds of up to 25 miles per hour.
The track runs for nearly a mile, giving riders a good view of the Guadalupe River before plunging down the hillside.
