Hospitals across Texas welcomed the first newborns of 2026 early on New Year’s Day, with a baby girl in Fort Worth arriving precisely at midnight and twin boys in nearby Grapevine following shortly after.

Linda Mohamed was born at 12 a.m. on January 1 at John Peter Smith Hospital to parents Bashair and Abdellatif Mohamed. Hospital officials said the infant weighed nearly 7 pounds and measured 21 inches.

The arrival makes the Mohameds a family of five, with Linda as their third child.

JPS handles about 5,000 births annually, representing roughly 20% of Tarrant County’s total. The network includes a 582-bed hospital and more than 25 community clinics.

At Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, Grapevine, twins William and Elliot entered the world at 1:16 a.m. and 1:18 a.m. Their parents, Elizabeth and Ed Evans, said they were surprised — and thrilled — to learn they were the first North Texas family to welcome twins in 2026, a distinction confirmed after hospital staff checked with other facilities.

The boys came earlier than anticipated and are under extra care, but everyone is doing well, and the parents are excited to hold their sons soon, CBS News reported.

“Our original due date was March 4,” said Elizabeth, per Fox 4 KDFW. “They are a little bit early, but they’re doing fantastic. We are very happy about their progress. They’re little warriors.”
