North Texas is set to experience a typical summer heat wave this week, with temperatures expected to climb into the upper 90s and peak at 102 degrees on Friday, according to the DFW National Weather Service.

While the heat is significant, forecasters note it remains within the normal range for late July in the region. The heat wave is driven by a high-pressure system moving across Texas, bringing drier air and slightly lower humidity levels. Dew points in the DFW area are expected to hover around 71 degrees, offering a modest reprieve from the usual summer mugginess.

On Tuesday, scattered high clouds and a southern breeze will keep temperatures around 90 degrees by noon, climbing to 97 in the afternoon.

Wednesday will bring mostly sunny skies and a high of 99 degrees, with heat index values potentially reaching 104.

Thursday is forecast to be the first triple-digit temperature day of the year, with a high of 101°F, although still well below the record high of 108°F for the day. The high on Friday is expected to reach about 102 degrees.

By the weekend, a small low-pressure system drifting from the Florida coast toward South Texas may introduce a few clouds and slightly cooler temperatures, keeping highs just below 100°F.

Area lakes, including Possum Kingdom, are currently full, a positive development ahead of an expected dry spell. No tropical systems are developing in the Gulf of Mexico or Atlantic, with a 0% chance of formation in the near term.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions as the region endures the summer heat.
