A captivating new exhibit honoring the late Princess Diana is set to open at the Arlington Museum of Art on January 17.
Titled Princess Diana: Accredited Access Exhibition, this showcase will feature 140 stunning photographs taken by renowned royal photographer Anwar Hussein and his sons Samir and Zak, who have followed in their father’s footsteps.
The exhibit promises a unique glimpse into Diana’s life through a personal and emotional lens, accompanied by immersive audio guides that reveal the untold stories behind these iconic images, CultureMap reported.
The exhibition chronicles Diana’s transformation from Lady Diana Spencer to the beloved Princess of Wales and highlights her legacy as a global ambassador, fashion icon, and humanitarian.
Through these photographs, visitors will see Diana’s life unfold—from her early days in the public eye to her impactful roles as a mother to Princes William and Harry and her humanitarian efforts worldwide. Hussein’s intimate style captures Diana’s warmth and humanity, immortalizing moments that defined her as “The People’s Princess.”
Organized into thematic sections, the exhibition offers a multifaceted exploration of Diana’s life. Highlights include The Photography Dark Room, which delves into the artistry of royal photography, and Hats & Tiaras, a tribute to Diana’s iconic style. Other sections, such as Humanitarian and Unguarded, reflect her compassionate spirit and candid moments away from the royal spotlight. Each photograph is accompanied by firsthand accounts from Anwar, Samir, and Zak Hussein, adding depth and authenticity to the narrative.
Anwar Hussein, who passed away in September 2024, was more than just a photographer for the royal family—he was Princess Diana’s trusted confidant. As the longest-standing photographer on the royal roster, Hussein played a pivotal role in redefining royal imagery with a more relaxed and relatable approach.
His work captured some of Diana’s most enduring moments, including her famed visit to the Taj Mahal during the breakdown of her marriage and the unforgettable “revenge dress” that symbolized her independence and resilience.
Hussein’s legacy lives on through his sons, Samir and Zak, whose contributions to the exhibition continue the family’s tradition of capturing historic royal moments. The Arlington Museum of Art’s display of these photographs marks the first major U.S. showing of Hussein’s work since his passing, providing a rare opportunity for American audiences to connect with Diana’s extraordinary journey.
Through their lenses, the Husseins bring to life the warmth, elegance, and complexity that defined Diana’s public and private personas.
