American Airlines and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport officials announced expanded plans for the new Terminal F project that is currently underway.
The new plan will see investment in Terminal F rise to around $4 billion, according to the airline’s May 1 announcement. The number of gates will more than double from 15 to 31, lounge and premium space will be expanded, a new lobby check-in area will be added, and a dedicated parking garage will be constructed.
Initially, the project was planned for passengers to access Terminal F through Terminal E using the airport’s Skylink system. Now, a dedicated area will allow flyers to check in and pass through security within the new terminal.
American Airlines is expected to occupy all 31 gates of the new terminal, though other airlines will still have the opportunity to occupy gates in expansions taking place in terminals A and C.
DFW Airport CEO Sean Donohue says the original 15 gates are still slated to open as planned in 2027. The entire project is expected to be completed by 2030.
“It is truly going to be a signature terminal for American [Airlines] … I think it will be better than any terminal in the world,” Donohoe said, per Community Impact.
American Airlines CEO Robert Isom says the carrier will boast the single-largest hub globally when the expanded terminal is completed.
“DFW is American’s largest and most critical hub, and with this expanded plan for Terminal F, DFW has a clear path to become the largest airline hub in the world,” Isom said in the May 1 press release.
“Dallas-Fort Worth is one of the fastest growing regions in the country, and we’re excited that American and North Texas will continue to grow together. Terminal F will elevate our customer experience in a big way, providing customers with a fantastic new facility and state-of-the-art amenities… We’re excited for the future at DFW and all the growth that’s to come in North Texas.”
