This past weekend saw two separate apartment complex fires cause some serious damage in the metroplex’s flagship cities.

A fierce overnight fire lasted into early Saturday morning in Fort Worth. Some two dozen residents, including six children, had to be evacuated. The Fort Worth Fire Department was alerted to the fire at 3:15 a.m. on Saturday, reported NBC 5 DFW. When firefighters arrived at the 8200 block of Porsche Drive, they were met with flames coming from the roof of the two-story apartment building.

Two additional fire engines were called in to assist at the scene. In the aftermath, the American Red Cross Greater North Texas stepped in, offering emergency assistance to the displaced individuals. As of now, no injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

In Dallas, the Meadows at Ferguson Apartments was the site of a serious fire Saturday evening, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR).

The incident began with reports of smoke emanating from a second-floor apartment at 11760 Ferguson Rd. The situation quickly escalated, with flames eventually breaking through the roof. In response, DFR dispatched around 45 firefighters to the scene. It took the responders nearly two hours to bring the fire under control, as reported by WFAA.

The intensity of the blaze caused the roof of the building to collapse, resulting in substantial structural damage. As a result, the 12-unit apartment will need to be demolished. Most of the building was unoccupied at the time, and there were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

According to the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department dashboard, between July 2023 and June 17, 2024, DFR responded to 7,560 fire incidents. Of that total, the top five incidents by type are grass fires (1,988), followed by vehicle fires (1,702), trash fires (1,072), structure fires reported (910), and dumpster fires (791).
