Local police say a driver suffering an apparent medical episode crashed his vehicle into an apartment complex on Tuesday, killing one of the building’s residents.

The incident occurred when the driver allegedly lost control of his maroon Buick LeSabre while traveling east on Fieldcrest near Jupiter Road in Garland, per AOL.

“The driver as he was leaving lost all control and went across all lanes of traffic on Jupiter,” said Lt. Pedro Barineau of the Garland police.

The driver reportedly crashed into a Nissan Altima before driving into an apartment complex in the 1700 block of North Jupiter Road. Emergency services responded to the crash just before 9:30 a.m.

Plautila Aguirre, 71, was inside her apartment when the driver crashed into her residence. Aguirre was taken to a local hospital, where she later died from injuries resulting from the crash.

“It sounded like an airplane crashing. I just knew it was the loudest sound I’ve ever heard. It was fully inside the apartment … the whole car,” next-door neighbor Jamey Fritts told WFAA.

The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and has since been discharged. He is cooperating with law enforcement, and no criminal charges are expected.
