A city in North Texas is drawing enormous crowds with a nightly water and light show called “Illuvia.”
Grand Prairie launched the “Vegas-style” water and light show at its landmark EpicCentral entertainment and hospitality complex back in June. Since Illuvia went live, location data collected by Placer AI suggests an average attendance of around 32,000 visitors per week.
According to Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen, daily attendance at the Illuvia show has surpassed the city’s expectations.
“Since opening, it has become an overwhelming success, captivating the residents of Grand Prairie as well as audiences from around the metroplex,” he said in a statement, according to The Dallas Morning News.
Consisting of a light and fountain display with synchronized music and video production, Illuvia is an experience appropriate for all ages.
Dallas resident Zach Brooks, who attended Illuvia with his daughter at the end of July, described the experience as “a nice getaway” for kids and adults.
“I kept seeing people talk about it online and just had to check it out for myself,” Brooks told The Dallas Express. “I found it to be a lot of fun and an all-around good time for everyone. My daughter had a particularly fun time because of the music and water fountain.”
Showtimes are daily, with each one lasting approximately 15 minutes.
The “twilight shows,” which take place during the longer daylight hours of the summer months, feature water, lights, and music at 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
The “full Illuvia experience” features water, lights, music, and video and runs at 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
The city said the fountain also runs daily between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
“Come feel the cool mist touch your face as phantasmagorical fountains leap 60 feet in the air. Witness shimmering images appearing like magic across sheets of illuminated rain. Bop your head to the synchronized beat underscoring the whole playful, fluid affair,” Grand Prairie says in its description of the family-friendly attraction.
According to the DMN, Grand Prairie officials claim the attraction averaged 32,300 visitors per week in July between the hours of 6 p.m. and midnight — with an average of 9,300 visitors on Saturdays.
Grand Prairie resident Georgina Ibarra has attended Illuvia with family and friends several times since its launch on June 23. During her most recent visit, she brought along some friends from Mexico.
“We came to eat at Chicken N Pickle and walk around the area,” Ibarra said, per the DMN. “It’s cool, it really is.”
