John Peter Smith Health Network in Fort Worth has partnered with the United States Army to aid soldiers in transitioning to civilian life, teaching them new skills that will assist them with obtaining employment.

John Peter Smith (JPS) Health Network has entered the new partnership as part of the Army’s Career Skills Program (CSP). Originally founded in January 2013, the program has since won several awards, such as the Council of Colleges and Military Educators Barry Cobb Government Organization Award, the American Business Awards, two Gold Stevie’s for Best Overall Organization of the Year Award, and more, according to the U.S. Army website.

“To date, over 49,965 Soldiers have completed one of the 226 CSPs hosted at 31 [U.S. Army Installation Management Command] installations, partnering with over 4,000 employers delivering a 93% hire rate since 2013,” says the U.S Army, on its website. “Salaries for civilian employment opportunities through CSPs range from $40K – $140K per year.”

The new program can be undertaken in the final six months of a soldier’s active-duty period.

“It is the highest honor to give back to support the training and transition of our country’s service men and women into the civilian workforce,” Joy Parker, vice president of operations for JPS, said in a statement, according to the Fort Worth Report. “As a teaching hospital, JPS understands the value that creating new pathways to training and recruiting a talented workforce has on caring for our community.”

The hospital system held its annual Veterans Day breakfast on Friday, honoring 250 staff members who were once service members.

“JPS values the service and sacrifice of our veterans,” said Dr. Karen Duncan, president and CEO of JPS, at the breakfast. “Today and every day, we are proud to honor those who served our country and the JPS veterans who continue to serve our patients and community.”
