A North Texas fan-favorite Tex-Mex restaurant has burned down.

According to the Cleburne Fire Department (CDF), La Fiesta was destroyed by a fire in the early hours of July 1. The department arrived on the scene after receiving a call for a smoke investigation around 700 North Main.

“Upon arrival in the area, CDF crews found heavy flames venting through the roof of the La Fiesta Restaurant,” the department said in a social media post. “CFD worked through the night, putting out the main body of the fire and trying to get to hot spots after the roof collapsed.”

No injuries were reported. The Investigation into the cause and origin is ongoing, and both are undetermined at this time.

The restaurant was constructed in 1973 and first operated under the name Jose’s. The Vazques family owned it. In 2000, the property was sold to the Avalos family and turned into La Fiesta, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

“Our family is devastated at the loss, as that building holds many memories. We are so thankful to the community for choosing to eat at La Fiesta year after year, and although we do not know what the future holds, we know that God always has a plan,” Edicia Avalos wrote on social media.

Cleburne Mayor Scott Cain took to social media to note the loss of the beloved restaurant. Cain shared that he waited tables in high school and had meant family meals there.

“Like many others, I waited tables there when I was in high school and had many family meals there. It is a sad day in Cleburne,” Cain wrote.
