Krum ISD has placed Krum High School head softball coach and teacher Mitchell Davis on administrative leave after his arrest on family violence-related charges, district officials said.

According to Denton County Jail records, Davis was taken into custody on June 10 and booked into the jail. He was released the same day after posting bonds totaling $15,000.

Davis faces a charge of continuous violence against the family and assault of a family or household member by impeding breathing or circulation. The charge is classified as a third-degree felony and carries a penalty of 2-10 years in jail.

In a statement, Superintendent Jason Cochran said the district learned of Davis’ arrest on June 10 and immediately placed him on administrative leave pending a review of the matter.

While on leave, Davis is prohibited from being on district property and from having contact with students, according to the district.

“The safety and well-being of our students remains our highest priority,” the district said in a statement, per Fox 4 KDFW.

Court and booking records indicate the allegations involve Davis’ wife and her 14-year-old son. According to a booking affidavit, the teenager told investigators Davis had become increasingly physical with him over the past year and alleged that he had been pushed, shoved, restrained, and strangled on multiple occasions. The affidavit states the boy reported incidents that occurred in March and April in which he said Davis choked him, causing pain and making it difficult to breathe.

Davis’ wife also told Northlake police she witnessed an April 23 incident in which she saw Davis with his hand around her son’s neck following an argument in the family’s kitchen, according to the affidavit. She later sought a protective order against Davis in May.

Davis has served as a teacher and head softball coach at Krum High School since August 2022, according to information cited by the district.

Krum ISD said it is cooperating with law enforcement and will continue to follow district policies and legal requirements as the case proceeds. The district declined to provide additional details, citing personnel and ongoing legal matters.

Davis was released pending further court proceedings.
