A three-alarm fire erupted on the roof of Killough High School late Tuesday night, prompting a large response from the Lewisville Fire Department that stretched into the early morning hours.
Crews were dispatched to the campus around 9:30 p.m. after a neighbor called 911 to report black smoke rising from the building in the 1300 block of Summit Avenue, Fox 4 KDFW reported.
Firefighters arrived to find an active fire on the school’s roof. To release trapped smoke, crews cut several ventilation holes through a dense layer of roofing material.
The blaze was largely brought under control, and personnel then turned their attention to locating and extinguishing hot spots hidden within the roof structure.
The school was empty when the fire started, and no injuries were reported, officials said. Crews also kept the flames from spreading into interior classrooms and hallways.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and remains under investigation, according to Lewisville Fire Department officials.
